Morrow Sr. Website: Referred by: Clicked on a 'Guestbooks by GuestWorld' Button From: El Paso,Texas Time: 2000-07-10 19:35:07 Comments: This is for Albert Carboni and others who put such little info in their comments. You would have better luck getting a response if you included your branch of service, unit, rank, where you were stationed, dates you were in the service etc. People don't always recall names, especially when they get up in age. Here is an example: In my case. David C. Morrow Sr,SFC E-7 US Army Ret., Service from July 1945 to July 1968, mostly in Signal Corps. Short assignments in Ord Corps, and Air Defense Artillery (Nike Ajax Fire Control). Assignments in Berlin and Pirmasens, Germany. Presidio of SF. Presidio of Monterey (Spanish Lang Student). US Army Mission to Colombia. Ft Monmouth,NJ. Tobyhanna,PA. MAAG-Taiwan (Chung-li). Ft Bliss,TX. White Sands Proving Ground,NM., etc. Ordnance Basic Training at Aberdeen Proving Ground,MD from Oct-Dec 1945. Wife: Waltraut (Susie) from Berlin. Who knows? I might even get some response from this message. This is how we find each other and we need to help each other. I'm still looking for Gerald Applegate who was with the 77th Sig Svc Bn and 57th Sig Svc Co in Berlin. He married a German girl in Berlin in 1949, Ingrid or Inge. He was a Corporal, was discharged from the Army and returned to Denver. The last I heard was that he joined the Air Force, but no further info. Good luck in your searches and pray about it too, it helps. |

Name: Linda Burns Website: Referred by: From a Friend From: Time: 2000-07-09 00:36:43 Comments: Dear Rich, Thank you for locating me for Linwood Hughes. Linwood was with James Warren Smith when he was killed by the Viet Cong at Durlac, South Viet Nam, in 1968. James was an American hero who received three Purple Hearts, A Bronze Star Medal, A Silver Star Medal, and medals from the Government of South Viet Nam. Linwood said that James saved his life at Durlac during the terrible fighting. He had been looking for James's family for the past 30 years. He wanted to know where James is buried and he also promised James that he would tell his family how he died. I had put a small writing on Taps, and from that, you found me! What a miracle! You found a third cousin of mine, who knew me, but not where I lived, who put you in contact with his father, my Dad's cousin. That is real detective work! I was able to put Linwood in contact with James' s mother and also give him the location of James's burial place. James is buried at Fort Sam Houston Military Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas, Plot W. James's mother asked me to thank you. She said that she will never be able to thank you enough. She is 83 years old and said that means so much to her at this time, especially. She is very thankful. We are all very thankful, Rich. God Bless You! Linda Burns |

God has blessed all of us in ways we don't know how to explain. Some lived, some died but those of us who remain never forget the time or the places of the past and the friends we met along the way. I thank God that he saw fit to save me first from myself and the wrath of his to come but also from the destruction we all faced in Nam. To those of you that don't know him as both Lord and Saviour I encourage you to try him for yourself, he's never failed us yet. I guarantee you will never be the same. Jesus is Lord. I had just signed up with AVS about a week ago. It was Jack from AVS with a guy named AL, from 32 years ago, on conference call. They left phone numbers and I called Al right away. You see Al and I had history at USNH Newport and he was the Anesthesia Tech who wheeled me to the Operating Room in Quang Tri, I was pretty much out of it then and that was the last time I saw him. What a phone call. But that wasn't enough, Jack called again about four hours later with another guy on the line also formerly from USNH Newport and FMF Pendelton. Talk about too much for one night, but it was fabulous. Planning a reunion with AL in Newport in about a week, turns out he's got a place there and I live 40 minutes away. To Jack and all the AVS crew, thanks more than mere words can say. I know your work today is going to keep me wound up for weeks, it got misty there for a while. If there is anything else I can do please ask. If we all sign up,then we all can be found! |

Name: HARRY J. ALLSTON Website: Referred by: Net Search From: REEDLEY, CA (PHILA, PA-1943) Time: 2000-07-02 17:38:22 Comments: Served at Sampson Training Center from 12-1943 to 1-1943 2/2/44 I was assigned to LCT 001 at Camp Bradford, VA (?) for training. Was the assigned to LCT 1019, Flotilla Two and shipped, via LST #603 to Oran, Africa where we were 'dumped' in the Mediterranean. Trained in Algiers and then on to Tunisia where we were towed, by LCI to Palermo, Sicily. More training and then in on the tail end of Anzio. Moved up to Salerno then up to Naples for more training and eventually, loaded for Southern France. Had 3 Sherman, 2 - 10 wheelers, 2 jeeps and about 150 troops. Landed in Sardinia to allow troops to eat and bath in water. Reloaded and on to Southern France. Went in to St. Tropez on the 2nd wave and then did much ship to shore. Mostly troops and equipment. Dates elude me but we returned to Africa where we were loaded upon LST #492 and returned to the states. After a time we were assigned LCT 647,Flotilla 41, Group 122 for Pacific operations. This was loaded on LST #1080 in "THREE" sections!!! Two days out of Pearl the conflict ended. Upon our arrival in Pearl Harbor, we, the crew assembled the LCT in the water. If we knew one of the connecting tanks would be our water supply, we might have taken more pains to make it water tight. Consequently, we drank salty water for about a year. Spent most of the time in Pearl at East Loch doing ship to shore. Was loaded on a LST #47 (in one piece) and returned to the states for discharge. Our group was assigned to Flotilla #10. Some of the men I remember serving with were: Herbert Reynolds, EM *** Ens. Gszell LCT 1019 *** Robert Mount, QM (Wounded by shrapnel in S. France) ***Mike Dadonna, Cook Ens. Farmer LCT 647 *** J Y Hoffman, SEA1 ***Doug Huskins, GM Don Calloway, SEA1 *** John Pomerski, MMM ***Henry Hillier, COX John Ireland, ??? I started as F 2nd to F 1st to SEA 2nd to SEA 1st, to COX and ended my tour as BM2. I have some pictures of LCT's and you are most welcome to copy, scan them. I am 74+ years of age and in pretty good health. I try to stay active and do try to keep the 'gray matter' working. Would welcome any and all contacts to my E-Mail address (ALLNAVY@JUNO.COM). |

He was also in Hawaii with the Naval Undersea Research & Development Center, also served on the USS Elizabeth, USS Coral Sea, Uss Stickle, just to name a few. Referred by: From a Friend From: Sequim, Washington Time: 2000-06-11 18:25:15 Comments: During WW II there were some 250,000 men and boys like myself who joined the Merchant Marine & Maritime Service, to operate those many Liberty, Victory, Troopships and Tankers which were necessary in getting the Troops and supplies all over the world. Unfortunately those who survived the ordeal were after some 43 years of the ending of WW I I granted their Veterans Status by our Gov't. Presently only some 120,000 of them,or their next of kin have recieved their Honorable Disdcharhges and DD-214 certificates for that dedicated service. Which means that still some 130,000 have not yet applied for theirs. Many of those remaining men have passed on from amongst us. However I (or we) who are the survivors and dedicated to the cause of finding them, are asking anyone who may know the whereabouts of an individual or the next of kin of one who served in these services please tell them that these ceretificates are available to them, but they must apply for them, and can obtain the necessary information on the how to by clicking onto any of these web sites; http://www.tenforward.com/bud/ http://www.usmm.org www.merchant-marine.com Or they can send me a self-addresses, stamped envelope and I will see that they get a copy of the necessary form ( DD Form 2168 ) to this address. Harold "BUD" Schmidt Sr. 472 El Camino Dr. Sequim,WA. 98382 Or if they feel they must talk to me, I am at (360) 683-1550. THANKS for and to anyone who can help in this endeavor.>>> |

He referd to him as Staff Sargent Hamrick. I always knew Jim would probibly last in the Army after the 4 yr's we put in with the R.O.T.C. at our High School. Name: Michelle L. Curl Website: Referred by: From a Friend From: Illinois Time: 2000-06-09 10:44:22 Comments: Dear AVS, What can I say but thank you so much. Something I tought would never happen has happened, and I owe it all to you and a man I met in a Vietnam Veterans Chat-TXRose199. I was looking for a man that served with my father in Vietnam and after at Camp Lajune. His name was "Tink". I'm 24 years old and obviously never met this man, but my parents had always told stories of him that had stuck in my head these years. I had an idea when I first got my computer that I would try to find him, but I guess I wasn't looking in the right places. On June 8th I recieved a link to your website from a man I met in a chat room while looking for "Tink". That got me here. I posted a search add, and went to get groceries, by the time I came home to check my mail to my suprise I got a letter. It was from Jack here at AVS. He had found Tinks mom, and had talked to her. He gave me her phone number, but said Tink was in California. I knew Tink was from the south somewhere in Arkanas. So I though that it was a scam. I called my mom and asked her again where he was from. She told me Arkanas. Being the stubborn redhead that my father taught me to be I called her. As I talked to her and told her who I was and why I was looking for her son, I started to cry. I knew what my dad was getting for father's day. Tink was in California, but she would have him call me when he got home. Much to my suprise he called. I talked to him as though I knew him for years, and explained to him that my dad didn't know I was looking for him. I wanted it to be a suprise. Once we exchanged information, he said he was going to call my dad. "There was only one Jerry" Tink said. Jerry is father and I lovehim very much. Tink called my dad as soon as we hung up. When dad got on the phone he tought someone was playing a trick on him. Until he mentioned Possium Creek, and Tink laughed. I have know idea what that is but I take it as either an inside joke or a town or something. What ever it was my dad new he was talking to Tink. Mom hadn't seen my father smile so much in years, as he did after that phone call. They exchanged addresses and phone numbers and will keep in touch. Who knows they may never see each other in person, but that one night on the phone brought back to buddies that served together in a place that I can never imagine. For that I owe many thanks to AVS and TXRose199,who ever you are. You made two Marines remember the bonds that a war like gave to men. One black and one white in a time when that wasn't supossed to happen. Tink was right there was only one Jerry, but there could only be one Tink that could mean so much. Thanks Tinks you made my dad smile! And Dad Happy Father's Day I love you! Love Always Your Daughter, Michelle |

Name: Q Madp Website: Delta 1/5 Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: I'm in Portland OR Time: 2000-06-04 14:40:49 Comments: Dear Heroes, To many, Memorial Day has become another shopping or vacation or drinking holiday. Many hear the uttering of war on TV, on the radio etc. and watch pictures of flags on graves, and old war heroes in uncomfortable fitting uniforms. But, unfortunately, that's all many will see!!!!!! They will not see the fear young men experienced in the war zone. They will not see the fear of their parents and siblings left behind. They will not see the pain of the men that trained them to go there. They will not see the pain of the leaders that lost them. They will not feel the bullets that ripped through the soldier, or the knives that scared them deep. They will not see they eyes of a child being used to lure the soldier and to kill them both. They will not feel the sorrow of the soldier watching his buddies die in his arms or get blown to pieces. They will not feel the guilt of the soldier that survived, wishing he could have done more, offered one more limb, one more drop of his blood for his buddies that died. They will not feel, how unwelcome the returning soldier was returning stateside. They will not see and feel the nightmares day after day, week after week; year after year many returning heroes endured and still are enduring.
