Dear Rich Palmeri,
I want to thank you for the information on Col James Hiteshew. In fact I talked to him on the telephone, he lives about an hr. from our home. Unfortunately my grandmother passed away 8 years ago but I promised to find Mr. Hitshew for her and I did. We still care very much for all of the men who have served our country. I come from a military family. My grandfathers, aunts, uncles cousins and even my brother have served this country. I wish we could bring every one home where they belong God bless you and keep you always and  thank you again.
Very Sincerely
Dawn Gifford

Last month I posted a request to locate a Korean War buddy that I haven't seen or heard from since leaving Korea in 1951. Within a week, he called me.
Hearing his voice after 50 years was indeed a great joy for me. We pulled a lot of combat together. Thanks for your help.

Comments: Dear AVS, What can I say but thank you so much. Something I thought would never happen has happened, and I owe it all to you and a man I met in a Vietnam Veterans Chat-TXRose199. I was looking for a man that served with my father in Vietnam and after at Camp Lejunne. His name was "Tink". I'm 24 years old and obviously never met this man, but my parents had always told stories of him that had stuck in my head these years. I had an idea when I first got my computer that I would try to find him, but I guess I wasn't looking in the right places. On June 8th I received a link to your website from a man I met in a chat room while looking for "Tink". That got me here. I posted a search ad, and went to get groceries, by the time I came home to check my mail to my surprise I got a letter. It was from Jack here at AVS. He had found Tinks mom, and had talked to her. He gave me her phone number, but said Tink was in California. I knew Tink was from the south somewhere in Arkansas. So I though that it was a scam. I called my mom and asked her again where he was from. She told me Arkansas. Being the stubborn redhead that my father taught me to be I called her. As I talked to her and told her who I was and why I was looking for her son, I started to cry. I knew what my dad was getting for father's day. Tink was in California, but she would have him call me when he got home. Much to my surprise he called. I talked to him as though I knew him for years, and explained to him that my dad didn't know I was looking for him. I wanted it to be a surprise. Once we exchanged information, he said he was going to call my dad. "There was only one Jerry" Tink said. Jerry is my father and I love him very much. Tink called my dad as soon as we hung up. When dad got on the phone he thought someone was playing a trick on him. Until he mentioned Possum Creek, and Tink laughed. I have no idea what that is but I take it as either an inside joke or a town or something. What ever it was my dad knew he was talking to Tink. Mom hadn't seen my father smile so much in years, as he did after that phone call. They exchanged addresses and phone numbers and will keep in touch. Who knows they may never see each other in person, but that one night on the phone brought back two buddies that served together in a place that I can never imagine. For that I owe many thanks to AVS and TXRose199,who ever you are. You made two Marines remember the bonds that a war like that gave to men. One black and one white in a time when that wasn't supposed to happen. Tink was right there was only one Jerry, but there could only be one Tink that could mean so much. Thanks Tink you made my dad smile! And Dad Happy Father's Day I love you! Love Always Your Daughter, Michelle

COMMENTS:I just joined American Veterans Search at 11:30 today. At 11:50, I posted a search message for a dear comrade from Korean War days. I had been trying to find him for years. At 16:50 this afternoon, I had a call from a representative of your organization. Not only had he found information about my friend, Ernie Cooper, but also he had Ernie's 93 year old aunt on the line for a conference call. I was devastated to learn that Ernie had died, but I was so glad to know how to find out more about what happened to him in later years. I found out where to locate his obituary and the phone number of his brother. Tomorrow I will call the newspaper for a copy of his obituary and call his brother to give him my memories of Ernie. The first day of membership in your organization has already been worth many times over the cost of my membership. Thank you so much for this wonderful service. Jerry G. Nye
